RU Neema Hospital is equipping itself with new structures and new medical-health services! The new Department of Specialist Clinics, operational since the end of February, specifically hosts the new clinics of: Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Dermatology, Senology, Dentistry (dental clinic) and offers the new electroencephalogram service.

In particular, the otolaryngology clinic provides a audiometry service, mainly aimed at screening in children, both among RUNH patients and in schools, for an early diagnosis of deafness that allows to limit, among others, the risk that affected children are stigmatized due to the lack of recognition of the disease (cases of bullying due to the confusion between deafness and mental retardation are frequent).

Of particular note is also the electroencephalogram service which provides a diagnostic service not present in the area, aimed in particular at theidentification of childhood epilepsy cases.

The realization of these two clinics was possible thanks to some very important collaborations: the San Paolo University Hospital in Milan, Professor Canevini of the San Valentino Onlus association e Professor Felisati of the Sentire e Crescere Association they financed and took care of the training of local staff during some missions at RU Neema Hospital; there Albacare Foundation on the other hand, it financed the construction of the structures of the Department, while Manos Unidas Spain it financed and made possible the purchase of the necessary equipment within the new clinics.

The idea of building this department of specialist clinics was born from the request of the RUNH patients themselves. The presence of these services in the North-East area of Nairobi is particularly important both for the geographical proximity to the slums of the area, and because it allows access to patients who do not have the economic possibility to access the same services in other centers of the city.

The works began in September 2018 and the conclusion is scheduled for the end of January 2019, in the hope of activating the services starting from the end of February 2019.

The dental clinic has already been set up, however, we are looking for funds to finance the purchase of the necessary equipment (amounting to about 25.000 euros)
