Last week we received a mission from Tuscany, within the framework of the project “Educating for health: training and health education program for the youth of the Mathare slum”, founded by Regione Toscana. The sports doctor Luca Vigni and the nurse Sara Pettini, both from USL South-East Tuscany, visited the children that play basketball in Why Not Academy. These medical check-ups are essential to ensure children health and their ability to practice sport in a safe way.
On Saturday 13th, Luca and Sara held a First Aid training (BLS), both theoretical and practical, for teachers and coaches working in Why Not Academy and in the six schools of the area involved in the project. For people working every day with children, it’s really important to know how to deal with obstruction and cardiopulmonary arrest. These incidents could happen at any moment, but some basic knowledge and practice could really make the difference and save a life.
