Gichagi, is a slum located in the outskirts of Ngong Town. Densely populated, majority of the inhabitants are casual laborers and/or domestic workers. Through the Mother and Child Health project in Kajiado County, World Friends on 29th January 2015 held a mobile clinic to these slum residents.
53 year old Regina Njoki, a Community Health Worker from Gichagi was among the patients who came to receive medical attention from World Friends team. “For four years now, I have been a Community Health Worker here in Gichagi. I spend most of my time serving residents here, most especially giving advice to expectant mothers on the importance of attending Ante natal clinic and taking their babies for immunization. We are very thankful for the services that World Friends team offers our community, most especially for bringing them within our reach.”
Reproductive Health counseling, growth monitoring and general medical services are among the services provided by World Friends team consisting of a nutritionist, mid wife, counselor and a nurse.
Through the mobile clinics offered to communities within Kajiado each week, World Friends aims to overtime, reduce maternal and child mortality.
